After twenty years of career, two separations and a promise (not kept) never to release an album again, it is with The Sound of Scars released in 2019 that Life of Agony returns to us, these essentials of New York alternative metal.
Conceived as the second chapter of the story initiated by their legendary concept (and first) album Rivers Run Red, The Sound of Scars opens the way to redemption where the first part of the story closed on a note of pessimism. An evolution that is as logical as it is unexpected, as the 20 years that have passed between the two chapters of this same story have been punctuated with twists and turns.
A first separation between 1999 and 2002, a change of gender for the singer Mina Caputo in 2011, then another separation from 2012 to 2014. So many events that will have marked both the themes and the sound of the group, as Mina testifies. and the band's bassist and songwriter Alan Robert in the eponymous documentary that accompanies the release of The Sound of Scars.
Because the malaise and the suicidal contemplations of the beginnings have now given way to the search for appeasement and the healing of past traumas. But make no mistake about it, if Life of Agony comes back to us more peaceful, the group is still just as quick to turn a festival scene over to us with great blows of distorted guitars and guttural howls.
It is therefore accompanied by its tumultuous history, and armed with its six albums that Life of Agony comes to remind Hellfest why it will be necessary to count on them as long as they are alive (even dying). (translated)
