
The Origin story of AMG!! Featured alongside the New C63 S Wagon, we will answer the question “What makes an AMG”!
And since it’s endgame week I’ll use the infinity stones to travel back in time with you!
We start in the year 1965, when Mercedes Benz just made the decision to discontinue all motorsport activities. And for two engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher how this crushing blow led to a special moment in 1967!! When AMG racing engine development is Founded. A meaning Aufrecht Melcher Grossaspach.
Fast forward to 1971 - and small AMG team managed to buy a used 300 SEL used for racing, and modified it further bringing the 6.6 V8 up to 6.8, widening the arches, lightening the weight and thus the Red Pig was born! The mighty AMG saloon won champion in its class and won second place overall, only because it needed to stop and refuel constantly. The Legend of the Red Pig was cemented, leading to the expansion of the small company!
