Towards the end of 2009 we will see the release of James Camerons first movie since Titanic, this movie is called Avatar.   This movie, along with Transformers 2, is one that I am most looking forward to this year.  Not only is it a return to the type of movie that James Cameron excelled at (Sci-Fi, James Cameron was writer and director of Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, The Abyss, Strange Days and True Lies as well as writing Dark Angel and much of the Sarah Connor Chronicles) but he is also using this movie to push 3D movies further than they have every been pushed before (so he says, and I believe him).

Not a great deal is know about the movie yet other than the basic background (see the below summary taken from the IMDB), however given James' track record I think this is going to be a great movie.

Plot Summary:
"In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture"

Some interesting looking concept art for Avatar has been posted on Aint It Cool.

It appears to have the same kind of technological look at Aliens, but how things will have translated into the movie we shall have to wait and see.

An amazing new trailer is now available, giving a good overview of the story of the film as well as the visual look.  Well worth checking out!

I'm looking forward to this film, it looks like it has a somewhat original idea behind it & stunning CGI. Unfortunately the release date in the UK (17th December) means I will miss out on a chance to see this in the cinema :(

you away on holiday?
It's bound to be out for at least a month, possibly longer. You'll have to pretty busy not to be able to make it at all :(

Heh - I'm at uni, so I can only normally make it to the cinema on Wednesdays :(

I suspect I may end up watching a month or 2 after it's initial release, but it is one I want to see.

I saw Avatar last night and it is really good.
It's up to James Cameron's usual standard for story and action and is good fun to watch.  Not only are the Na'vi exceptionally well done, the earth military forces have some great gear, particularly the mech suits :)

The 3D was also brilliantly done, probably the best I've seen on a live action 3D movie, with only a couple of 'shadows' that I noticed near the start.. after that it appeared to be more or less flawless, and the way it draws you in is great (you don't realise just now natural is all seems until some idiot in front of you gets up to go to the toilet and disrupts your view!)

Definitely recommend seeing this!
