Well after a long while I noticed someone good finally playing at The Zodiac (Rooster - No!, Death Cab for Cutie - NOOO!) and thought we'd go to the gig.

Entrance was 14+ but all the girls at the front seemed about 10. Anyway supporting Towers of London was the local band Smilex and a small band from London called Nancy's Boys. The first act, Smilex, was a shocking punk-metal outfit, not really worthy of the stage once graced by Supergrass. The local idiots who knew the band (there were 2 of them) tried creating a mosh pit in the small area of the Zodiac. No one joined in and got really quite annoyed at them. Then the singer jumped in and managed to throttle himself with the cable and two other people. I don't think anyone was happy.
Afterwards Nancy's Boys came on stage (like the Libertines, Baby Shambles etc.) and then the show heated up. "London Town" was my favourite and soon everybody (including the armchair fans at the back) were singing along with the chorus. The guitarist was a man who looked like a woman and wore boots to match.

Afterwards people got a bit impatient waiting for the main act, the house music was at one point Cascada (What were they thinking?) and there were chants for the boys to come on, led by one drunk blonde girl at the front.

Finally the lights went down and an air raid siren blared over the cheering crowd. Then Towers of London entered fronted by their second guitarist, all wearing tight oh-my-tooschies jeans and too much hairspray. The band set up, looked at the crowd and smashed into 'I'm a Rat'. They played some new songs including 'The Bible' and they played the hidden track on the album 'Son of a Preacher'.

The atmosphere in the Zodiac was however lacking, thanks to armchair fans at the back (I like this song, it has great flow) and the ten year olds at the barrier.
However Towers did really manage to kick the **** out of Oxford.

The sound in the Zodiac could have been better, with Donny's voice getting really distorted and the guitar sounding a bit trebly. But the band all use Gibson Les Pauls so it's all good.

I got in backstage after the gig and got my shoe signed by the band, it was all good.

A good gig, but the people there were lacking. 8/10

They play punk rock: Guns 'n Roses meets The Clash.
