Saw the news about this, while I'm fairly excited I'm not going to get my hopes up until it hits the shops! There have been too many 'new Amigas' lined up that never actually materialised

However, at $500 it certainly sounds interesting! Even the $1500 one would price fairly well in the UK (so long as the don't try the $ = £ trick!!), depending on the actual spec. Will be interesting to see if the two versions are the equivalent of the old A500/A3000 and A1200/A4000 combinations.
Add to that, the market is very different today than it was back in the Amiga glory days - back then PCs were also expensive so the prices seemed reasonable, however by the mid to late 90s, a part for the Amiga (memory for example) cost around 30% to 60% more for the Amiga than it did for the PC. This would be something that would have to be avoided for the new ones.
Of course, will need to see just how OS4 stands up against the likes of XP and Vista, not to mention the other niche systems, Linux and Mac, not just in terms of usability but for software support as well. I'd expect that there would be a reasonable supply of software through the open source community, but it will also need applications that give it a purpose, if it can't do anything my PC can't do then why have another computer?
Still, this news story did spark a nostalgic discussion in the office today, which was also contributed to by
