Creating a new thread for the Simpsons movie since the other one was a speculation thread on who we would want in a live action Simpsons movie.

Anyway, Apple have put up the full trailer for the proper Simpsons movie that will be coming out in July 2007

I saw a new trailer at the last movie I went to see where Homer lodges the claw of a hammer into his eye socket and other hilarity ensues. I hope it's not totally hammed up and stupid but I must admit I like the later seasons more that the older ones, something my younger self would destroy me for.

lol and me too if i was that violent of a person. i dunno, the later seasons just seem to be going steadily downhill since their losing a lot of ideas, and the jokes are always a lot more freestanding and random. i think seasons 5 to about 8 or 9 were the peak of the series

I liked season 3 and at the time season 5 and 6 were out I thought season 3 was gold... but now I like seasons 8 and 9 alot more, just like you, even with the more random jokes that don't really connect alot of that was incredibly funny, but now, the new episodes are so formulaic, and badly so.

They just think of some random idea (Homer become the head of the Mafia) then make jokes while watching the best reference material towards that (The Godfather) and just have 30 or 40 Korean animators go to town on it and toss it in Fox's inbox.

It's getting ridiculous and I doubt they ill keep going that much longer. A few years ago I read an interview with Matt Groening who said he would likely do two more seasons and then quit... getting to be about that time now.

Maybe this Simpson's movie is like their swan song, perhaps the last new material they will put out. Of course it's more likely they will have another 43 seasons so you never know lol

I remember him saying that as well, probably would be a good way to exit with the movie.
However, money talks... and Fox own the rights, so if Groening quits they can always get someone else to do it

Personally I am just still massively heartbroken about Futurama being cancelled. They are officially uncancelled again but not in a good way, they are making 4 Futurama full length movies and breaking them into 13 episodes to be played on Comedy Central in 2008 apparently. Sounds pretty bastardized to me. Hopefully if Groening wants to kill The Simpsons off, Fox will let it die with some dignity!

well, i'd heard that the movie would be the end of the series, but listening to the audio commentaries on the DVD sets i have, i guess that isnt the case. they're planning on continuing the series after the movie, and the actors are even signed on for 3 movies!

Saw this last night and it was great.

Is a shame that the best joke was used in the trailer, though there are a lot more in there as the story approaches epic proportions!

I watched it last night also, but found it lacking somewhat.

I think they could of made use of other characters a bit more. Krusty, Moe, Duff Man, Skinner etc weren't featured enough if at all!

They missed out some huge potential for gags with them, and I think the story followed 'the simpons' a bit to much and didn't show others.

Lenny and Carl could of made an excellent 5 minute break in the film.

It's just three (or more) Simpson episodes stuck together. TBH the characters aren't developed any more. They are the cliches you expect from them...like nothing is improved on in the movie from the cartoons.

Funny though :D

I saw it last night, I was somewhat disappointed. Like BB said, it lacked some huge potential for gags. Most of the movie seemed to be what I saw in the adverts. The plot was lame as well hahaha!

Though having said that I did laugh a few times (Not as much as I hoped mind), and did like the Irish dude :) I think they should have gone to Canada instead of Alaska mind.

I watched this movie today with Adam. He told me not to even bother watching the second half because it went downhill but I disagree. I thought it was really funny, granted not as many gags as on TV but I think too many would have stopped the movie flowing. I really recommend this film!

Looking back on it, it was a great film to be honest. I think the reason most people did not really like it much is because it just felt like 2 episodes stuck together and people are not used to that.

yeah, it made me laugh!
Don't think there is ever a 'bad' episode of the Simpsons, just ones that aren't quite as hilarious as the others!

I might get it on dvd (Maybe), I did have it's moments. I think poor advertising and the "Family guy approach" (See south park - Cartoon wars) to it lead people to feel let down. Have you noticed it's a 7.7 on IMDB?
