Very insightful explaination there, Stevie. I'd try to describe some of the styles that we study within Kobudokai, but it is rather hard considering our style is derived from both Japan and China.
Erm, if anybody would like an insight onto Wado Ryu, Wu Shu, Jujustu, Weaponry or Budokick/Kick Boxing then my Sensei's site my prove helpful -

Bad teaching IMO. Defense is essential for 2 reasons, 1. without a solid defense, attack is weak, watch any fight between 2 good fighters and you will see that most attacks are blocked, few actually hit, so without a defense you will struggle. 2. teaching any form of fighting, particuarly weapons, without teaching defense is questionable. Learning Martial Arts as an art form and discipline is fine, learning to be able to defend yourself is fine, but I would do not like the idea that someone just wants to learn to attack, IMO they should not be getting taught in the first place if that is all they want.

I hope your interpretation of your lesson is mistaken, or that you have not yet finished training the basics of the weapon.

loopylass, lots of information on that site. I like the video of the Wu Shu instructor, very impressive.

Has anyone here every tried 'Stage Combat'? It's the most fun you can ever have, you learn how to beat the crap out of someone (Or make it look like you are) and make it look good.

yeah i've done that in theater. its actually really neat cuz its the victim that controls in really. not the attacker. i had a lot of fun doing that.

My sport is and always has been Boxing, even though i missed out for a few years when i was busy being a parent,i do it for fitness and the pleasure of competing.
For purely defensive purposes im doing a martial art that was supressed in the USSR but is now resurfacing,it is called Systema and is practiced by Russian special forces,it covers fighting ,groundfighting, weapons, hostage situation the lot,it is of course highly effective, wich is why the Soviets banned the populace from using it.Despite Centuries of use.
What i like about it most is,no tunic,no Kata, no gradings and certificates.
Oh i forgot to mention mass brawls,if you saw a video of a dozen guys all fighting at the same time you would be well impressed, maybee amused.
