This is something that I have been wanting to happen since I was very young (well, since Transformers first came out), a live action movie about the Transformers.
Seems that the movie is almost certain to go ahead now, the latest news on this movie is that Dreamworks have aquired the rights to make it, Steven Speilberg personally made a trip to Rhode Island to secure the deal, he will also be Executive Producer on the project. Definatelty a good sign

The crew are well creditted, having worked on the X-Men films, the Mask, Blade II, Hellboy and others. Countingdown.com have an interview with serveral of the key people which you can find here:
http://www.countingdown.com/features?feature_id=3214408
They discuss the ideas of what makes a comic movie great and bad, very reassuring to see what these guys have to say and to see the efforts they'll be putting into Transformers to keep it true.

Being one of the big movies to be in the pipeline, release looking to be in 2006, IGN have even got a Transformers mini-site going dedicated to news on the movie.
An interesting article there indicates that the director of the movie is looking like it will be either Roland Emmerich (Independence Day) or Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3)
http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/539/539700p1.html

More recent news has also linked Tom Hanks with the movie, seems the guy has an awsome Transformers collection of his own (the joy of earning millions!!)

Another good article can be found at Empire, though doesn't really offer much new beyond what it listed above, however still worth a read.

I'm not a fan of transformers well I have never even watched it. But it seems as though the movie may be good.

Read a rumour on Aint It Cool News that George Clooney could be providing the voice for Optimus Prime. Could be interesting, however as the script isn't done yet, best to assume that the casting is far from final as well.

Far from final...i think this might be one of those movies where you go to the movies and see a better film, but this might appeal to the older genration.

(pphhffff... kids today...) ignoring the comment about 'older generation'.....

New news on the Transformers online now, biggest announcement is that 4th July 2007 will be the launch date of the film, this means that they plan on it being a big one! The team behind the film is pretty solid as well, with writers from X-men, The island and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, director will be Michael Bay (previously having done The Island and Armageddon) and to really put the cherry on top, it's confirmed that Steven Speilberg will be producing the film

The offical website for the movie is online at http://www.transformerslive.com/ , be sure to check out the news area, seems that someone has stolen the number plate for the Optimus Prime rig that was at ComicCon this year!

News article about the announcement can be found at Yahoo, http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=794&e=5&u=/eo/20050714/en_movies_eo/16938

got to be said, I haven't been this excited about a movie announcement since Lucas said he would be make the Star Wars prequels!

wow!! obviously a lot edgier than the show. not saying anything about an "older generation" since i'm pretty sure everyone and their mother watched some version or other of transformers HOWEVER, i will say they are probably aiming this film at the original watchers who loved it as kids and are now adults...i actually thought this was ridiculous when i first heard about it but it actually looks pretty interesting...it better be for adults though cuz if they turn it into a kids type movie that looks like an adult movie then i am NOT going to be happy!

yeah, check eBay, the orginal toys (Prime, Megatron & Starscream era, the ones that were part diecast. later ones that are just plastic are not worth as much... but then the best ones were the orginals anyway) can sell for a fotune - I think I saw Prime go for over £100 once. I had someone offer me a fair bit for a few of mine (Prime, Jetfire and Soundwave in particular), but I turned it down as I couldn't give them up (depsite they fact they just sit in a box in my loft...)... too many memories!!

Movie is definately aimed at people like us, the fans of transformers when they orginally came out, so the tone has grown up with us. If you have a look at the new 'generation 1' comics that have come out over the last few years, the tone of them is much older and definately aimed at the original fans. Of course there are the 'Armada' and 'Energon' brands now which are aimed at the kids.

so are they using some of the same voice actors from the cartoon. Like in tranformers armada and energon? I like the voice actor who plyed Optimus.

Live action because it will be real people
Shia LaBeouf has what I think is the lead role, Buster Witwicky (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0479471/), though given the comedy roles he has had previously, not sure how this character is going to turn out.

As far as I am aware there have been no announcements regarding who will be doing the voices for the transformers. rumours have been out that George Clooney would be prime, as well as rumours that it would be the original guy, Peter Cullen, however there has probably been no casting for it yet as they can do the voice overs when filming is done anyway.
though good to imagine... Clooney are Optimus, Kevin Spacey as Starscream... struggling for someone that would do a good Megatron though

lol i meant how can it be live action when a majority of the movie will be CGI. they're gonna have to do the entire thing before a green screen right?
i mean, its all about the robots and they can't be real.
kevin spacey has been getting himself out there lately huh?

a real treat for everyone today, the first proper trailer for The Transformers has hit the net
Must be said, this is looking good, and seems to state, in no uncertain terms, this is not a movie about toys!
