Don't know if anyone has been keeping up to date with this film, but Jet Li's new film coming out sometime soon(ish), I think, is called Danny The Dog. A trailer is available HERE! It is about 10MB in size. From the looks of it, this should be a really good film, and it is a great sign to see Jet paired with proper actors, and good ones at that (Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman), rather than rappers who are wannabe actors. Of the three main Hong Kong film stars that have moved to Hollywood for films (Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Chow Yun Fat) while some of their films have been entertaining, there hasn't really been any that are anything more than brain fodder. Hopefully Danny The Dog will be different. The trailer certainly makes it look like it should be!

That does look interesting, will be watching out for that one. Is this the one that was shooting in Govan?
I'm assuming then that Crouching Tiger was not Hollywood?
As for Jackie Chan, to be fair on your statement, he has never set out to do that, he's interested in comedy, don't think he's really wanting to do 'serious' films anymore.

Yeah, DtD is the one that was shooting in Govan, and CTHD wasn't Hollywood, it was mainly a Taiwanese production I think.
And yeah, Jackie Chan hasn't set out to do serious films, but I personally don't think his films have been as good as his similar efforts from HK, that is more what I was meaning. Basically that the standard of their films in Hollywood isn't as high as the standard of their Hong Kong films.

probably a question of taste. you and I am somewhat in the minority in what we look for in a martial arts film, more in line with the eastern market, however the western market general prefers flash, glitz and production values over technical accuracy. this is why so many big martial arts stars never seem to do so well (from a martial artists point of view) when they go to hollywood since the films will never display the same technical merit that their previous films did. (or they play the bad guy and end up getting their ass kicked by the drinking, smoking, ex-cop that doesn't take sh*t from anyone!) This seemed to suit Jackie Chan's aims, he wanted to do more comedy type roles and from the perspective of his own well being, he needed to take roles that were not going to inflict the physical damage on him as he had been doing in Hong Kong films, let's face it, he's getting old now!
Jet Li certainly seems to be the one that is changing the trend, he is managing to maintain a level of technical merit in the films while also providing entertainment that appeals to a western audience. It has taken a while for the west to adapt to this style as for so long the western image of the martial artist was a big muscle bound guy with a few flashy moves

I actually quite like the name, very fitting to the film. Have you watched the trailer? If not, then you probably won't see the relevance of the title. Basically it appears that in the film Jet Li plays someone called Danny who is basically trained like a dog to fight, dog collar and all... ok, crap summary, just watch the trailer!!

I agree with Degen. Serious films have relevant, though not necessarly catchy, titles. If it was just an brainless action flick then it would have a name like "The Kickassanator" However it would have to be really brainless to have a title like that ʎzzıp 1ǝǝɟ ı

Not sure what the final name for the film will be, the IMDB have the film listed as being called Unleashed. We will have to wait until it is out before we really find out.

MonkeyPeaches.com posted links to reviews on Jet Li's film... sound very very good! http://fan-sites.org/jet-li/dtd_rev1.php (no spoilers) http://www.jetliuk.com/grafiks/cms/page.asp?686 (some minor spoilers - although are more spoilers if you read the synopsis - just skip it and go straight to the review!) Cannot bloody wait till this is out!!!

I think it was showing in the cinema there. It has been released in a few countries in the world, but the UK release date is either April or May, can't remember which. But it is certainly looking like it will be the sort of film that all the big Asian stars that have come to the West would all have been hoping to make.
This is pretty near the top of my MUST SEE this year list.
