The only ones I've seen in recent times are:

Princess Mononoke - ok, nothing special for me.
Spirited Away - Very very good.
Ninja Scroll - Not bad, but nothing amazing.

Sitting on my shelf waiting to be watched are:
Macross Plus, series and film.
Perfect Blue
Whisper of the Heart.

Want to get more Stuudio Ghibli films:
Kiki's Delivery Service
Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Porco Rosso
My neighbour Totoro

and also am wanting to give
Ghost in the Shell (and part 2 when it is released) a look too, but too many films to work through before then!

I'm still a fan of the classic Akira, superb stuff.

Was watching Ghost in the Shell a couple of nights ago (Degen, you can borrow if you want), very good as well.

Others that I have been a fan of are, Battle Angel Alita (and if you like this, you have to read the Manga), Legend of the 4 Kings, Guyver, Vampire Hunter D, Project Ako and Judge. There is another series that I can't remember the name of that I really liked (about a female cyborg, set on Mars).
There are many others that I liked as well. Still to see Patlabor, Macross and Bubblegunm Crisis, will get to them someday!

No need to borrow it yet... I counted the number of unwatched dvds on my shelf this morning, and this doesn't include x-files box sets, red dwarf series, south park series and other box sets, just films, and the number was at 202. I've got too many other films that I want to get through first. If I have a time when I suddenly feel like I really want to watch it, I'll let you know!

No, Anime is the name for Japanese animation (also sometimes called Japanimation).
Manga is the printed version (i.e. comics, etc)

When anime started to get popular in Britain 10 or so years ago, there happened to be a number of sex related ones released over here (sells well to the niche market of 15 to 25 year old males), this ended up tanting the image of anime somewhat as many parents started shouting about kids cartoons having sex references was unsuitable and somehow failing to notice that the videos were rated "18", the closed minds of the time thought that because it was cartoons, that it must be aimed at children! Thankfully this misunderstanding is now in the past and people are generally more open to new media and ideas

The Japanese are more open about sex and sexuality than us westerners, so the theme will crop up more often than in western media.

also, I think Pokemon cartoon would also count as anime!

The Street Fighter animated movie was good, I was quite suprised by that!
Has anyone seen the Tekken series? Is that any good?

Fist of the North Star, how could I foget that! The live action movie of that was actually quite good as well (not sure if good is the word I want, enjoyable it probably a better word for it) - always remember the scene with MachineHead's "1000 lies" playing the background!

I might check out Tekken sometime then.

hmm, its not my favourite style of animation, prefer the more rounded styles, simpsons etc. But, a lot of people like it so it must be good, just not in my eyes
