Don't know if many/any of you have visited, but my sig is a link to the website I run, dedicated to Asian DVDs.
On one page I have a "Genres" section, and I think it looks really boring, just being plain text.
I know the sort of thing I want for this page, but I'm not very good at artistry (correct word?) on computers. So for anyone who wants to help, here is what I am wanting to do:
For each of the genres: Action Animation Category III (Equivalent to "Over 18s only") Comedy Drama Erotic Fantasy Gunplay Gambling Heroic Bloodshed Martial Arts Sci-Fi Supernatural/Ghost Suspense/Horror Swordplay Thriller Triad/Cop Wuxia (sort of martial arts where the martial artist is able to fly and do unhuman things, in the physical sense)
I am wanting to create a little picture of that word, but done in the theme of the genre. For example, "Action" would be sort of edgey and exciting looking, with a knife as the "t" or something like that... get the idea?
If anyone can create some little picture for any of these genres I would be most greatful. However, there is criteria for the image. Size: about 40 pixels in height, but definitely no more than 55-60. Length, about 180 pixels.
You can make them smaller than these sizes if you wish. The sizes are just a general guideline, but I would like them all to be roughly the same size.
Do not make any that are too rude too show on the site...
To give people some incentive to create some, if anyone makes quite a few which I use, to show my gratitude I will send that person a free DVD (of my choice)!
I will be trying to create some at the same time, so the quicker you are the better!
If you are interested in helping and have any questions about anything, then PM me.
Thanks in advance to all that help.

Don't really need it now. Created them all this morning (took me 3 1/4 hours to do it all!)... if pepole can do better then I'd gladly use theirs instead. But here is the page after I've played around with making little gifs. If anyone wants to help, the image size has to be width=161 pixels and height=46 pixels.

I didn't really do most of that though... the credit belongs elsewhere. All I did was download loads of different free fonts (there are some REALLY cool fonts out there!! www.1001freefonts.com has some crackers! That's where I got ALL the ones I used from), and use paintshop pro to create a little gif with the text in it, and then choose suitable colours for the writing! So I didn't really draw anything, I just typed. But I think the results are decent enough!

Yes it is, if you are being specific about genre. Calling it a martial arts film isn't wrong, but Wuxia is probably more a sub-genre of Martial Arts. A kind of rule of thumb is that if the person is kick ass at martial arts and can basically fly or jump 200ft type thing, then it is Wuxia.
Is based on old Chinese stories where people who had mastered a martial art were able to do these sort of things.

Favourite?
Tough question. Originally it was Martial Arts, as that is what got me into Hong Kong cinema in the first place. Then once I'd seen loads of martial arts films, I began to broaden my horizons in HK cinema. I saw things like Wuxia, which can be either brilliant or crap depending on how it is handled, and then onto the mega-gunplay flicks like John Woo's Hard Boiled... then to general action. A lot of these general action films had quite a bit of comedy in them, so then I started checking out the comedy stuff, and then I saw some comedy/suspense/horror things, and then plain suspense and horror films, which started to get me into Japanese cinema... and then Korean cinema...
So there is no short answer. When done well, all of those genres can offer some films which I've thought were brilliant, and I would find it hard to put anyone above the other.
But for mindless popcorn entertainment, you can't beat a big gunplay/action/martial art film.
