The forum runs from a database, so all I had to do was write a database query to retreive the 10 most recently update forum topics, then display the results.

What are you confused about? If you read the posts everything is explained. Chris asked a question, swoj answered. That's it. Not much to get confused about.

I don't think so as your website and your forum are hosted on different servers (I would assume that they are not local to each other either - i.e. they do not physically sit in the same room or building), also as your forum is hosted by Proboards, it means that while they do all the looking after of the forums, it means that you have restricted access to the code and the database. On Swoj.com, I control all the code on the site, including the forum code, I also control all the databases involved, so this means that I can easily access the data when and where I need it. In order to be able to get the kind of control and access that you need, you would have to have a webhost that allows you to use server side scripting (this could be ASP, Coldfusion, PHP or something similar), you might be able to find a host that will give PHP or ASP for free, but most likely you would probably have to pay for hosting in order to get these services.

Then have a look at http://forum.snitz.com/The forums they have is the basis of the forum that I run here and you should be able to use it with your host if they support ASP. They have lots of good help in their forums for getting the stuff running.
