Just to get a feel for what people's tastes are, list your top 10 films in this thread.

Narrowing it down to 10 will probably be really quite hard, and will no doubt change every couple of weeks, so feel free to break it down in to different categories, like top 10 action, top 10 comedy, or general top 10. Anything you want.

I'll post one set of mine just now, and will come back with more later.

Top 10 Martial Arts films (no particular order)

Fist of Legend
Police Story 3
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Drunken Master 2
Hero (Jet Li film, not the Yuen Biao one)
Once Upon A Time In China Trilogy
Prodigal Son
Tai Chi Master
Wing Chun
Armour of God 2: Operation Condor

All are Hong Kong films, except Hero which is a mainland China film and CTHD which is a Taiwanese film.

Notable mentions - films which just missed the list: Project A 1 & 2, Miracles, Police Story, Righting Wrongs, Iron Monkey, The Blade, Fong Sai Yuk

Top 10 Suspense Horror/Chiller type films. Again no particular order.

Ring (original Japanese version)
Dark Water (Japanese film)
Inner Senses (Hong Kong film)
The Eye (Hong Kong film)
Alien/Aliens (US films)
Sixth Sense (Us film)
The Others (US film)
The Dead Pit (US film)
What Lies Beneath (US film)
Kolobos (US film)

This one was hard to choose from, as there are very few films which have given me a genuine spine tingling sensation. However, each of the above gave decent suspense spine tingles, rather than the typical cheap jumps that many so called suspense/horror films use.

Time & Tide (Hong Kong film)
Shiri (Korean film)
Aliens (US film)
Die Hard (US film)
Leon (Us film)
Desperado (US film)

The emphasis here was actions films where the main focus of the action was the gunplay.

Xena: are they your "all genre" top ten films?

It is There's Something about Mary.

Out of interest, The Crow would probably be among my favourite films, but what genre would you class the film as? Just so that I make sure I put it in the right list!!!

The Crow is very cross genre, it could be Martial Arts, Gunplay and Action, Sci-Fi

That's why I don't like to catagorise things too much!

I'll have an overall top list soon, just as soon as I squeeze the list down to 10!! I'm sure it will include Star Wars (whole series), Lord of the Rings and Matrix. Very possible that Akira or Ghost in the Shell could make it in there, not sure yet. So many to choose from!!

Good list Xena, only one I haven't seen is Green Mile, I'll really need to get that on rental!!

Top 12 Comedies - no particular order.

American Pies
Van Wilder
South Park The Movie
Happy Gilmore
Weekend At Bernie's
Groundhog Day
There's Something About Mary
Shaolin Soccer (Hong Kong film)
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey
Sex is Zero (Korean film)
Monty Python & The Holy Grail/Life of Brian
My Sassy Girl (Korean film, and one of the very few Romantic Comedies that I've seen that I loved!)

Made this one top 12, so that I could put in My Sassy Girl and draw everyone's attention to it. It is a romantic comedy from Korea like no other. It is a excellent story, and the cast are perfect for their roles, and it is just so damn funny. Go on to any Asian cinema forum and ask about My Sassy Girl and it will receive nothing but praise of the highest order, and also comments from people stating how much they are in love with the leading actress!

Find it and see it!

There is no way that I could narrow down to an overall top 10. But things can be cross genre, which makes it ok. Personally I wouldn't class The Crow as martial arts, as he doesn't really use martial arts in it. I found that it was far more story based than anything else (which is why it was such a good film), which would possibly make it a drama(?), with action as the secondary genre. So maybe an action drama?

But yeah, you gotta get The Green Mile. Is a very good film, again completely story based.

Will make my general action top 10 sometime soon, so that action films which aren't primarily gunplay based can get a feature!

Yes, I would put THE CROW as an action drama. AND a Love story!! The tag line for that movie is "Real Love is Forever." That is my most favorite of all time. He didn't do much martial arts in that one, but he still kicked some ass in that movie. That was such a shame what happened to him.

The Green Mile! Stevie, you have to see that one! Thats a must see. Good story. Very heart warming!

I didnt list mine in categories as I don't think I could come up with ten from each.

And yes! Thanks Degeneration, it is Something about Mary! That is the funniest movie I have seen in a good while. Funny movies are just not as funny any more. Hmmm, but that one with Eddie Murphy was pretty good. He was a professor and he played other parts in the film as well. Can't remember the name of that one either. Oh yeah...thats it! The Nutty Professor!

Fight Club
Interview with a Vampire
Dogma
Gladiator
The Princess Bride
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Twelve Monkeys
Aliens
Akira
Ghost in the Shell

I see that The Crow is at the top as it should be! Cool!

I feel like watching that one right now! You know, I have some sketches of Brandon Lee, from the movie. I am going to have to get them posted some day. They are quite good, If I may say so! Lol!

Top 6 Animated films in no particular order.

Toy Story 1 & 2
A Bug's Life
Spirited Away (fantastic film!)
Shrek
South Park The Movie
Nightmare Before Christmas

I've not included the likes of Ice Age, Monsters Inc. in this list as I don't think they were good enough to merit being in a "top" list. Also from what I gather, the other animated films from the company that released Spirited Away (Studio Ghibli) are all supposed to be absolutely fantastic too. I'm going to try to get more of them at some point soon. Can't remember the old classic animated films, so haven't included them, and have yet to see Ghost in the Shell and the like. Only Manga I've watched recently was Ninja Scroll, which was alright.
