New trailer is online for Matrix Revolutions and it looks superb! Very different to the previous trailer that was out a month or two ago.

they said they were doing that with Reloaded but it didn't happen (believe me, I was on the case!)

The TV Spots are interesting as well, got them downloaded, might be obligated to start Swoj TV just so I can show them!

yeah, who'd have thought it would be a popular film!

I reckon I'll try again on Friday, though it might have to be a midnight showing!

Ok, I saw Revolutions tonight and here are my thoughts. Probably best you don't read until you have seen it yourself...

Well I saw it today, and thought it was alright, but nothing special at all. I'd give it maybe 2.5 / 5.

The only reason it got 2.5 is cause I still really like the story. Everything else either was crap or used far too much of a good thing.

I don't mind CG effects at all. When used right they can make a good film/scene a brilliant film/scene. For me, they should be used to enhance a film/scene, not replace it. And like the new Star Wars films, this is where Revolutions (and Reloaded) falls down. People will probably argue that a lot of what they were trying to show would not have been possible without CG. Well yes, that may be true, but that is where creativity comes into play, something I feel is somewhat lacking these days. The original Star Wars trilogy managed fine all those years ago...

minor spoilers ahead, highlight to read.

Anyway, absolutely none of the action set pieces in Rev got me going at all. It all just came across as run of the mill stuff. The big attack on Zion... too much fancy CG to give it any great impact or emotion. The final fight had a bit of power too it, but because of all the "it's my world here" type comments which killed the pacing of the fight, and just made it feel a little repetitive, it lost its power. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

Throughout the trilogy we have been told that Neo was the saviour or the people... I got that point. He sacrificed himself to save them all, yes I saw that. But was the Jesus cross pose for him on the ground really necessary?! After the battle with Smith was won, the film went into Cheese overload. The rave section was by far the worst section of Reloaded, and from when the Smith fight was won onwards is by far the worst section of Revolutions.

Colin Chou was completely wasted in both films. He only had one fight with Neo in Reloaded, where he obviously wouldn't ne allowed to win as he couldn't beat Neo... the only properly trained martial artist in the film, and they give him two guns in this one...

I could probably moan for a while about the film, longer than my 2.5/5 rating would suggest. So why did i give it that score? Well it was still entertaining. Despite giving nothing new in the action dept. and basically being run of the mill stuff throughout, it was still entertaining, and I do like the story. From what I've read and heard other people saying, I can honestly state that I do believe there are many parts to the story that I don't understand and probably don't even really know about. But the way I have the story in my head, and what I think I understand, I like. It makes me think, and there are still some open ends to allow my imagination to wander. So for me that is where the film does score well. It is just a shame the story wasn't really handled that well IMO.

Part 1 had everything working well together in good balance. Great action, great style, and great story. Part 2 had action and style which was no longer fresh and seriously underwhelmed. The good elemnts from part 1 were discarded. But for me it had a story which was thought provoking and complex enough to make part 3 a must see. Part 3 was pretty much the same, the story saved it. Nothing else had a wow factor to carry the film.

So for me The Matrix is one film, the first one. Parts 2 and 3 will be completely ignored as they just drag down an brilliant film.

Editted in: How could I forget to mention this... one of the other main (although brief) bst parts of Revolutions... the meeting Morpheus, Trinity and Seriph have with the Meriv... Mervi.. Morvign... the french dude... who else even bothered to look at him when they had Monica Bellucci's fantastic looking cleavage to stare at? And to think that little scene alone got her mentioned in the main credits at the end! Other people have had bigger roles in films and just been mentioned in somewhere far down the credits as ''girl with hotdog'' etc... although that was just an example, I'm not implying that Perisiphone had a hotdog anywhere in the film!!!

Just to point out, there is a SPOILER tag that can be used on this forum

for example, the code
[ spoiler]This is an example of a spoiler[ /spoiler] (take out the spaces after the '[')

Spoiler:
This is an example of a spoiler

The above spoiler can only be read by highlighting the text. Degeneration, you'll have to get that review sorted

well, just back from seeing Revolutions, and I really liked it!

I would have to disagree with some of what Degeneration has said. Mainly because the film seemed a lot more focused. It wasn't a case of CG for the sake of it, if you have a better way of show 100,000+ robots flying through the air in a fight with several dozen gun-bots, without using a lot of CG, then let us here it!

There was an article posted on AintItCoolNews, the top half kind of sums up my feelings on it (well, until the part that is labeled Spoiler!)

I think Revolutions was the second best of the three. I loved all three of them. Each of them are different movies with different over all styles, so don't watch Revolutions expecting to see more of Reloaded, it is a different pace of film.

Think of the series like a big storm.

Matrix: This is the best in my opinion, hard to really say why, probably partly because it was the one that broke the mould and changed the way action movies are made, kind of like the way Star Wars did. The story was great, the action great and it had a lot of style!
This is the first hints of the storm, the world is relatively normal with a few disturbances begining and ends with the storm ready to cause chaos.

Matrix Reloaded: This would be third of the three, I still love this film, I just like the others better. The story was there, but it just felt a little weaker than the others because they got through a lot of different events and didn't have the time to focus on events the way they do in the other two. The action in this was second to none, pushing the boundaries of what can be done and creating some of the more incredable actions scenes ever
This is the storm hitting, there is a lot of chaos and disruption, there is anarchy everywhere. Everything you know is thrown up in the air

Matrix Revolutions: Second best of the three, there is a lot more focus on the story than there was in Reloaded and the film revolves around a few key events. The action sequences are still great and they fit in as part of the story (in Reloaded, the story has a tendancy to stop for the action sequences) and as a whole the movie feels alot tighter than Reloaded
This is the end of the storm, some things begin to settle but there is still some chaos and still have to fight to survive it.

Hope that helps you get an idea of the triology and how Revolutions fits in to it, though I'm sure Degeneration will have some different ideas!

Bottom line, go and see Revolutions!!!
