it was quite simple.
When the page loads, the counter is set to one.
When the user clicks to gamble, if they win the gamble, I increase the counter, if they lose the gamble I reset the counter to 0 and send them to a different page (i.e. Game Over)
If the user selects to save their game, I take their name for the score table, then reset the score to 0.
The game variables are all server side, so cheating is impossible

The smilies need to have at least 1 space (or line break) character after the end of it. You smilie ended at the very end of your message, I added a new line at the end and it works now!
