Preceeding the Transformers movie was a trailer for a new movie by JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias, MI3).

As yet this movies name has not yet been revealed, in the trailer is seems to just be referred to by it's release date 01-18-08 (18th Jan 2008), it is also referred to online as "JJ Abrams Secret Project" or by it's development name of Cloverfield.

The trailer doesn't reveal too much yet, shot on camcorders, the trailer starts in far well party in New York, then what everyone thinks is an earthquake hits. When they get to the roof, it becomes apparent that it was not an earthquake.

Info on the movie can be found here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/

Trailer can be found here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808

Update: turned out that these websites were nothing to do with the movie. The coincidence that these sites were launched at the same time as the movie trailer sent the internet into a storm over nothing!
------------
Teaser sites for the movie can be found here:

Plenty of puzzles on the http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com/ site, can you figure them all out?

they were really smart to release the trailer like that. people will go to see it because they are just so curious about it. it got the adrenaline going and made you feel like you were really there, so that will make a big imprint on the memory.
its like the shaky bridge theory. i predict a big turnout.

That poster looks fantastic! good find

quick link to the poster: http://uk.media.movies.ign.com/media/948/948391/img_4749541.html

and a bigger higher res version http://iseerobots.com/2007/07/27/cloverfield-poster.aspx

Did just find out that Abrams office in LA is on a street called Cloverfield! Found that interesting facy over at http://www.joblo.com
Given how much people have been reading into the code name to determine what the movie is about, I find that quite funny!

i cant undersrand why its being released on the 1st of feb in the UK when clearly there would be bigger antiscipation if the film was before the 01-18-08. because thats what the film date is set in isn't it ? if it is then it will kinda spoil for the UK people.

I'm not sure when the film is set. Definitely possible that the date represents the date of the events in the film as well as the (US) release date.

Not like we don't usually have to wait the extra few weeks for a UK release (could be worse, Ratatouille was released in the US in June, while we won't see it until November-ish)

ew that is so weird. i don't understand why it doesn't all release at the same time. then you could get worldwide reviews.
though i guess every country wants their own "premier" and actors can't be in two places at once.

it costs to have more 'prints' of the film available. It's less of a cost now that it's mostly digital, however even a few years ago the prints would be made for the US, then after the US had seen the film, the prints would be shipped abroad for release in other countries.

Even now though, there is also marketing to factor in, particularly on smaller budget films, rather than spend 100m on marketing worldwide all at once, spend 40m in the US, get some money back from the release there, then spend the other 60m abroad.

The full trailer is online at Apply. This shows much more about the movie and it's scale. This is much bigger than the 'blair witch with monsters' type movie that some people thought it was going to be. However, as yet the monster has not been seen, looking like you'll have to see the movie for that!

And it also seems that Cloverfield is the official title now.

saw this movie tonight and it is good.
Generates a good amount of tension, the monster is pretty good and get revealed pretty well. As I heard someone say when we were leaving the cinema, it's what Godzilla should have been. Definitely worth seeing
