Can across a news article today reporting that James Cameron (of Aliens, Terminator and Titanic fame) is planning on launching a MMO based on a movie that he is currently working on. It is explained that the movie has a rich background for allowing an MMO to work.
The article doesn't say what the movie is, however James Cameron is supposed to be working on Battle Angel Alita, if you know have read any of the Battle Angel (or Gunnm as it also known) manga, then you will know that the world in which she lives has a lot of depth... not to mention a world of cyborgs, monsters, bounty hunters and big controlling organisations is exactly what is needing in an MMO

To give further evidence, here is how James Cameron describes the movie involved in the MMO
quote:
Taken from Business Week news article
My next project -- which I'm currently writing the shooting draft for -- is going to be this completely crazy balls-out sci-fi flick. The plan is to develop an MMOG that takes place in the same universe and release it a little while before the theatrical release. That way people can start playing around and learning about this new world. Then we present a narrative in it with the movie.
All sounding good to me, can't wait to see how this game turns out... sounding like a dream come true so far!

Got a second article on the subject
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_07/b3971073.htmThis one refers to the film as 'Project 880'. Not sure whether this is going to Battle Angel or not, time will tell.
According to the IMDB, both Project 880 and Battle Angel are due for release in 2007. Maybe they are the same movie.

Maybe they are not the same, this article explains that James Cameron is choosing between these two movies for his next project
