every thread has a row...in it is the NAME,AUTHORS NAME,LAST POST,then to the right is the REPLY TO TOPIC icon and the SUBSCRIBE TO TOPIC icon...what is it for. what happens and what benefit is there?

Subscribing to a topic means you should get an email notice when someone posts something new to the topic since your last visit. Handy if you post a question and need to get the reply quickly (means you don't have to stay on the site pressing F5 every 5 minutes!)

F5 is the key used in IE and Firefox to Refresh/Reload the page.
