Velvet Revolver-Contraband

3 Big Machine*
4 Illegal I Song
5 Spectacle
6 Fall To Pieces*
7 Headspace
8 Superhuman
9 Set Me Free
10 You Got No Right*
11 Slither
12 Dirty Little Thing
13 Loving The Alien*
14 Bodies (Sex Pistols cover)[UK only]
*songs to look out for...

This is basically an evolved form of Guns and Roses, having kicked their Lead singer and replaced him with someone much cooler and charismatic. And anyway AXL rose was and still is a git.

There isnt a song on here which is a piss take or Velvet Revolver just playing around with stuff.
I think all of them except Bodies could be turned into a single.

Sound:
One word: Smashing (in both senses)
The sound is explosive, hammering solos, amazing rythm and well balanced drums.

Lyrics:
Hmmm...hard one!
I think that Scott Weiland uses his talent pretty damn well. I mean singing about taboo subjects is pretty damn hard. You can't overstep the line but you need to adress it properly.
I love Big Machine because the paronoia behind it.
If you listen with your ears (no its not that hard) then you will hear the lyrics-
"We're all slaves to a big machine."
Now thats something to sing about.

Instruments:
Dave Kushner is their 'wildcard'. Only because of could they make music like this. Slash is amazing in his own right but he can't play two guitars.
I'm going to say this again it is just G 'n' R with Scott and Dave Kushner.

Originality:
I have to say I am pissed off with modern rock. Hard biting rock, nu-metal, death metal, punk...
In my opinion many people have taken rock the wrong way. It's always good to see someone different and putting rock in its right place.

Score: 9.5/10

nice review, thanks for posting

Certainly is a good album, as you say, it is GnR with a few others, glad this happened as waiting for GnR to actually release something (or turn up for a gig) was getting really annoying!

There is an offical Grindaar review of Contraband coming soon as well, it's on the system, just need to finalise it and then it will be live.
