What is an anonymous member i mean i know what it means but why be one and how do you be one?

It depends on what contexts you are referring, however I think you would be referring to the active users page. There is an option in your profile to allow others to see your online status ("Show on
Active Users?"), select NO for this will show you as Anonymous on the Active Users page.
