Mainly, yes. However given that most people have limited knowledge of history, a little responsibility by the movie company to get the fundamentals correct. A lot of people think that because a film is based around a real event, they think that what happened in the film is what really happened, they don't have the knowledge of history to know any better. But as I said, it would not have changed the entertainment value of U571 is the crew had actually been Brittish as in real life.

you know what...i say...go ahead with your 'based on true events' stuff that hollywood does, if only for the fact that those who truly know history can laugh their asses off when someone thinks that they know history...jsut cause they saw a movie that was loosely based on an actual event...this has actually happened to me, and i gotta say....i laughed and laughed and laughed soooooooo hard...my god...also gotta be great for history teachers so they can spot those slackin' students who watch a movie based on an event and then try to use that isntead of actual research of the event...
